A sad good-bye to Sam Gordon

Date: 16th March 2021

Some news from us! Sam Gordon, who has been with us since 2008, is off on a new adventure . We are sad to see Sam go, but happy for him and his plan. Over the last 14 years Sam has worked alongside many of our long-term clients. He has seen the Sidekick business grow and evolve, the town change and the clients’ stories unfold. He has been a steady hand throughout, for many of our treasured clients.

Sam’s clients describe him as caring and understanding about both business life, and financial management. He has led them through growth, ups and downs, COVID and he has also celebrated many wins. His consistency is reassuring and his gentle nature is perfect for teaching people about their books and the numbers. Having a reliable, accurate and kind support like Sam has been incredible for our clients.

Sam moved to Ashburton a little while back where he has been working remotely.  Even though he was a little way away, he was still an integral member of our team – in fact Most Fridays, Sam has zoomed in to our smoko to do the ODT quiz.  We will miss his quiet humour, his gentle approach and of course his excellent work. Sam has been part of our Sidekick whanau for a long time; he has been an enormously valued part of our family and community.

For years Sam has been an active member of Lions. He gave his time and expertise to this community organisation to just give back. It was not unusual to see Sam cooking sausages at the A & P show for Lions or raising money to give to special projects for our town. He is a humble character who, as you can imagine, didn’t want too much of fuss made of his departure. When we asked him about leaving he said, “I have been with Findlay’s since July 2008, so quite a while and I have seen a few changes in that time and met a lot of fine clients who I will miss, as well as my fellow workers. I will now have some more time for gardening and doing my own thing.”

Sam, we thank you for your time and commitment to the Findlay story. We will miss you, we wish you all the best and we hope from time to time you might still Zoom in on Fridays.

Sam leaves at the end of March 2021.
